Sharing your projects

Hello Maroon Cohort,

We have had time to reflect on leadership and our role within the community. In addition, we have used our leadership ideas and strengths to come up with big plans for our capstone project.  Now is the time to share these ideas!

Your assignment:

1) Post a message in response to this one.
2)Comment on at least 2 other capstone ideas.  Here is a list to help you respond:

  • give positive support
  • provide feedback on their project
  • ask questions
  • make suggestions as to good links or people they can talk to about their project
  • anything else for the good of the cause
We have gotten a lot of work done, but this is only the beginning! I look forward to helping each of you develop your projects.
-Ms. Pacion

  4. For my capstone project Im going to research and raise awareness for mental illnesses such as depression, autism, and drug induced retardation.

  6. So for my capstone project im doing something related to the Special Olympics. Why? Because I want to prove that it is good for society and how it affects those with special needs, plus I will be able to help a participant at the skating special olympics. So I get to do a project while doing something I love.

  7. My project is on the effects a golfer experiences with different types of golf clubs, putters and golf balls.  It will also focus on the key aspects you need for the golf swing and these will be put into statistics. The reason I am doing this for my project is because I have been playing completive golf for a year now and want to apply it to my school work because it is my life. Lastly I want to be an actuary when I grow up so I am implementing this into my project to get an idea about stats. :)

  12. For my Capstone project, I will research education and tutoring. Without a good education, it's very difficult to get a good job. I plan to learn what makes information stick and why it can be good for students to receive additional teaching after school and then present this information to parents and students alike. If I continue the project past ninth grade, I may become a tutor myself.

  19. Tarek,
That's a pretty good idea, how do you plan on promoting awareness though? What do you plan on doing? You and Adam have a similar idea, maybe you guys could work together. Just a suggestion.

  22. I am going to be going to the middle school to teach guitar since they do not have a guitar class. I would like to just teach the students beginner lessons. If they do not have a guitar or do not have enough money to buy one then I would like to somehow talk to the district and possibly get a loan to get guitars. That is my plan for the capstone project. :D

  23. I'm going to teach art to either the middle school or elementary.

  25. Michelle,
I think it is really cool how you are doing a project on the special Olympics, while you are also doing something you like to do. Are you going to assist and help the people in the special Olympics?

    ReplyDelete
  26. @Tristan

Let's make sure to help each other! Hopefully!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Tristan, Anders, how do you plan to secure your position on Stem?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Karina,
That sounds like a great idea! You should start tutoring now, just because your really smart and could help me with math:)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Tarek your ideas are similar to mine do you want to work together?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Kelly: what animals?
But anyways that's a great idea an you should stick with it.

    ReplyDelete

  34. My capstone is about creating a foster home. I really wan to be. Foster mom and help out the kids in the "system". In my foster home I will be promoting a family atmosphere and give them freedom while still maintaining rules and order. It will hopefully be on a lot of land so I could have horses and farm animals. I can't Wait to get started!

    Yeah this is Maddy cause my iPad hates me. (;

  35. My project is about teaching kids good leadership skills. This would be easy because my aunt runs a day care. -Xavier McCain

  36. Cristiana, world vision is a charity :) google it, pretty interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Michael,
What age group do you plan on teaching?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Kali,
I love how your project is about how golf works. A lot of people play golf but don't know the math and science behind it. I think you should find a way to interview famous golfers and find out if they research the math and science, or if they just play on experience,

    ReplyDelete
  39. Kelly,
Yes! My skating coach use to be the director of skating special Olympics, so she knows everything about it. And she told me that she would let me shadow her at the event, and possibly assistant coach. I know a great amount of her " special skater" already, and know how to work with them.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Thanks, Michelle! I don't really know what I'm doing with tutoring yet, though.

  42. For my capstone project I will be researching and creating pamphlets to create awareness about brain cancer.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Adam J. We should work together a little bit since I'm doing autism awareness, which is a mental illness.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Marshmallow(mariella):: I love that idea...there's so many cats out there that need homes. How are you going to get money for these cat homes(cabins)?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Michael and Cheyenne,
Since you both want to start programs at the middle school, or elementary. Even though there different subjects maybe you could present your ideas together, or work together somehow. Just a suggestion:) but good ideas overall!

    ReplyDelete
  46. That's a good idea Kelly I will consider it!:)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Michael,
Just cats and dogs to start with.

    ReplyDelete

  51. Karina, I really like your idea! Education is so important, and to teach students to be willing to want to go to tutoring is a really good life skill.

I also admire Anders and Tristan for wanting to be STEM captains! It would be really great for a future resumes!

  62. Tristan, I am planning on starting with playing and caring for the animals and then eventually working up to adoptions.

    ReplyDelete
  63. @Karina C

We have written out resumes for the positions, and if all goes well we will get an interview, then hopefully be hired into our respective positions. But if we don't get our positions, then we're dead!

    ReplyDelete
  64. It's interesting how many people are working with animals, and how many projects might be able to overlap. Some of you should find a way to work together.

    ReplyDelete
  65. @everyone....
I think everyone has a good idea!! After wearedone with these we are going to be so educated on the affects of mental illnesses, drug abuse and animal abuse. We are going to make an impacted guys!!

And it looks like Tristan and Anders have a little competition!!

    (:

    ReplyDelete
  66. Marlee,
That doesn't surprise me:) but how do you plan to do this?? Who do you plan on talking to? What are your plans so far? And maybe consider working with other students who plan on starting programs at the middle school, you could all work together, even though there for different subjects they all revolve around the same place. Just a suggestion:) but sounds like a good idea!!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Good luck on your projects, everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Adam I plan on making it onto the project by working hard and proving to the team that I am the right choice.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Michael how do you go about getting the loan?!?

    ReplyDelete
  70. I am willing to teach all ages but I would prefer older kids because younger kids annoy me, honestly. :))

    ReplyDelete
  71. Marlee how do you go about doing this?!?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Tristan
But how does that make it a project

    ReplyDelete
  73. Chistiana, we should work together! (: I am planning on volunteering at the same place you are(:

    ReplyDelete
  74. Everyone working with animals I think you have awesome ideas, I think not enough people care about animals these days.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Channing, Javier and Cameron what are y'all going to be singing about?!?

    ReplyDelete
  76. @Michelle

Once I have the pamphlets with information about brain cancer I plan to put them in stores and stuff so that many people can grab them, read them, and know a little more about brain cancer, and possibly even be convinced to donate to brain cancer organizations.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Michael but if you work with younger kids you can learn patience and learn how not to be annoyed and that will help you develop this leadership quality!!:)

    ReplyDelete
  78. That's a great idea, Kelly! I will definetly work with you.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Michelle and Kalli,

I took two years of a class that was taught to seven and eighth graders, so I have some good ideas and individual projects that could build up to actually teaching at the Middle School. It would be a really good idea to have others that want to teach at the Middle School to collaborate and be able to work together on projects that can relate!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Adam it was on the pamphlet for options so I thought it looked cool, also if I can make a good enough program I can possibly sell it and donate to a charity.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Okay then I guess I'm working with younger kids...since all of you know I'm so into learning new things!!!!! :DD

    ReplyDelete
  82. Well that's what I want but I haven't asked what the other two want to sing about yet.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Mmkrispybacon...I totally agree with you I would not have the patents to deal with little kids and I'm pretty sure you don't either...BAZINGA!

    ReplyDelete
  84. @ unknown (channing doi): your idea is a good one but you have to figure out what your going to do with the money you make. Figure that out then you can start your project...

@ Cheyenne Samp (shy shy): maybe we can get together and work on the same project...

    HIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!

  86. Everyone has a great idea. Inthinknthat everyone should follow their hearts:)

    ReplyDelete
  87. The way I will get the loan Kali is by either donations or by doing fundraisers to get money...I hope

    ReplyDelete
  88. @Javier what is our song gonna be about?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Michael I can understand why you wouldn't want to work with the younger kids. They can be irresponsible and hold back your project. I know some of the younger kids to and they aren't the most...helpful.

    ReplyDelete
  90. My timeline is going to be as long as I could be in STEM but I may not even get the position multiple years in a row, maybe not even this year.:(

    ReplyDelete
  91. My timeline may not take two years, but probably like a year

    ReplyDelete
  92. This is a year capstone, and in will need to contact a Mesa police officer;)
